Stop the Security and Prosperity Partnership

Sun Aug 19, 2007 at 10:09:01 AM PDT

America, do you want to be merged with Canada and Mexico? Do you want your currency to be changed to the Amero? Didn't think so. But this bland news release would not give you any hint that this is about to happen:
http://news.yahoo.com/...

This is all being done under the radar, without consulting citizens in a democratic process. This integration by stealth is an unconstitutional, but great grab by greedy corporatist neoconservatives.

Orange Revolution: Pirates, Cheshire Smile and Smirkmoon

This week I posted diary with a proposal for an Orange Revolution flag, - the Orange Roger. Then I worked on more Orange Revolution designs, and Pirate portraits. Here are the results.

The Cheshire Cat Moon design was pure fun to make.  When the Cheshire design, with its statue at the top of the Capital Dome, suggested something else, it offered an opportunity for serious comment. My thanks to the Kossack who requested an image with a Bush smirk. The moon is shown as "gibbous" - similar to the phase it will be in on/after July 23rd, 2007, when progressives gather to protest in Washington, DC.

The Orange Revolution - Pirate Flag Graphics

Mon Jul 16, 2007 at 11:33:50 PM PDT

People who support peace and the removal of the Bush Administration are wearing and displaying orange to symbolize their positions. We love the Kos flag with its tigerish shades of gamboge, sienna and orange.  But there has been some speculation about what flag might be suitable for this movement.

As Sparrow is my co-pirate, I think I have hit on a solution. What could be a better symbol for the piracy in money, values and hope that America has undergone than an Orange Roger - an orange pirate flag?

Below, I've subverted Yale's Skull and Bones club symbol to political purposes of peace and justice. It has added value, too - the Crossed Dollar. I visualized and designed this symbol to represent the greed and hypocrisy or the Rethuglican Administration. Click on any image to download your copies of these fair-use graphics.  I hope that this summer Americans will display so much orange - and black, for mourning - that it will look as if Hallowe'en has arrived before its season. There's more and news below the fold.

The Teddy Bears' Picnic

If you go down to the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you go down to the woods today
You better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic
If you go down to the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you go down to the woods today
You better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic
At six o'clock their mummys and daddys
will take them home to bed
Because they're tired little teddy bears

Friday the 13th - Ann Coulter

Fri Jul 13, 2007 at 03:05:35 PM PDT

In a thread today, someone suggested a connection between Ann Coulter and Morticia. (Here it is -
http://www.dailykos.com/... )

Freshly inspired by Dood Abides' amazing Cheney/Voldemort, I thought I would give this a try.

In the process I found out what crossed dollars look like. Maybe this will come to represent all the Republicans are - and eventually, what they were.

The result is below. Happy Friday the 13th.

ENOUGH/IMPEACH: More fair-use graphics

Thu Jul 12, 2007 at 01:22:50 PM PDT

Last week I posted some images that are available for personal use under Creative Commons licence. Since then, Wes Clark Jr. and Cenk Uygur announced their ENOUGH protests:

Happy Birthday, Cindy Sheehan!

Tue Jul 10, 2007 at 12:45:02 AM PDT

Cindy Sheehan is, along with Al Gore, probably the most admired ambassador for America in the world. Cindy is a mighty role model and an inspiration for activists everywhere, and particularly for young girls and women. Cindy is the only woman whose face I can imagine on the Statue of Liberty.

She also has been one of us, a Democrat,  though at present estranged, disappointed by the party's leadership.  May Democrats prove once again to be an inspiration to us all, and heal this land.

Does Cindy really want Pelosi's job? This Kossack diary offers an interesting perspective:
http://www.dailykos.com/...

Cindy will lead a march on Washington on July 23 - the "Orange Revolution". Read about it here:
http://www.truthout.org/...
(end of update)

Today is Cindy's birthday, and I invite Kossacks to leave good wishes and thoughts for Cindy here.

An American Tune

Tue Jul 03, 2007 at 11:10:26 PM PDT

an american tune 2000fralet

I've always loved Bach's hymn, O SACRED HEAD, which seems to be the saddest and loveliest music in the world.  When Paul Simon stole the tune and set new lyrics to it, he made it his own.

It could not be more perfect for this moment.

May this be the last sad Independence Day for a long, long time.

IMPEACH Graphics for you to use

Fri Jun 29, 2007 at 08:50:46 PM PDT

Two years ago, when Cindy Sheehan started sitting in a ditch in Crawford, TX, I didn't know how to make a bumper sticker. Rena at Crawford Peace House was the first person to ask me for one, and I've done a few more since then. Now it's Impeachment Summer!
iMPEACH

I was delighted when some Kossacks requested permission to use this soft, retro MPEACH fruit image for stickers, at rallies and so forth. Creative Commons licencing is such a good idea. So I'm going to load this diary with resources you might find useful - images, graphics tools and a couple of ideas.

New Orleans 20 Months After Katrina

Tue Jun 05, 2007 at 10:09:24 AM PDT

common ground header
New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are STILL disaster areas, almost two years after Hurricane Katrina, despite reports of progress coming from charitable organizations and the government. See this article:
http://www.tiny.cc/...   Common Ground Relief is making a difference in New Orleans. This 501c3 organization, listed with Guidestar, started with $50 and three people. Common Ground relief runs medical and legal clinics and four distribution centers offering food, water, and clothing. Common Ground volunteers do everything from tarping, gutting, and cleaning homes to "bioremediaton" of soil contaminated by sewage and toxins.  So far, Common Ground has offered relief to 50,000 residents in four parishes. If every American gave just $1 to this group to say Thank You to New Orleans for music, food, Tabasco Sauce, or a moment of enchantment, the City That George Forgot could soon be put to rights.

The White House: Dawn's Early Light

Sat May 26, 2007 at 10:42:41 AM PDT

At six, when I placed my hand over my heart and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, I took it very seriously. I still do. As I grew up, I learned that the Republic, Constitution and the Bill of Rights are more important than the Stars and Stripes.

Before the Dems caved to fund Bush's war this week, it was "the darkness before the dawn". Now we've seen how dark things really are.

We have our Constitution, we have America, we have each other. However, it is up to us to defend what we value.

Is it time for a new revolution?

American Scream

Fri May 18, 2007 at 01:24:03 PM PDT

Like other Americans, I lose sleep over the news. We are so close to bringing the scoundrels of the Bush Administration to justice - but can we make the charges stick?

Getting my thoughts and feelings out in visual form helps. After making this, I slept and dreamed of a peaceful, healing America where girls and women braided butterfly ornaments into their beautiful hair.

Tigana: The GOPfather

Wed May 16, 2007 at 09:56:16 AM PDT

DailyKos is a great place for an artist/cartoonist. I'm inspired by the brilliant and insightful IrishKorean, Eppie, Buhdy, OPOL and Dood Abides, and am grateful for Kossacks' encouragement of my offerings. Special thanks to VolvoDriving Liberal, and to marykk, who have been particularly kind.

The theme of Cheney as Brando in "The Godfather" was suggested by a Kossack in Dood Abides' great GOPranos diary - http://www.dailykos.com/...
The bird on his shoulder is one of the vultures that is coming home to roost.

This piece is based on something I did a year ago, now tailored to fit Mr. Cheney. It's available on gear at http://cafepress.com/...

Compositor for Macintosh is the program I use for most of my art. It has an elegant and intuitive interface. I think it's much easier and nicer to work with than other graphics programs that cost ten times as much - and handle like tanks. Get yours free for a month from http://www.artlythere.com/

Tigana: Condi - Let them eat shoes

Mon Apr 23, 2007 at 11:54:52 PM PDT

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the levees, and Americans' hearts, broke, Miss Condoleeza Rice was enjoying her liberty in New York City. She went to a musical - SPAMALOT - and shopped for shoes.

She did nothing to help disaster victims in the Chocolate City and the Gulf Coast. I thought of Marie Antoinette.

Miss Rice is leading Henry Waxman quite a dance - diaried at dKos here:
http://www.dailykos.com/...
When I heard that Miss Rice is, however, most willing to be a guest on television talk shows, I remembered this cartoon.

When Miss Rice goes to prison, I hope her shoes never fit.

War Games? - Operation "Noble Resolve"

Sun Apr 22, 2007 at 11:40:56 PM PDT

Dear Friends,

From April 23 to 27th, a military exercise, called Operation "Noble Resolve 07", will be carried out in Virginia.

Over four days, a marathon of “simulated” terror attacks will be staged across the United States and Europe. The detonation of a simulated nuclear weapon will occur in a harbor in Virginia, smuggled in by a “foreign nation.”

Military games were being conducted on September 11, 2001 and on the day of the London Underground bombings. We know that BushCo is very unpopular now, and that Russia has been warning that the US will attack Iran in April 07. Also CIA agent Philip Giraldi has warned that STRATCOM would launch a nuclear attack on Iran after a WMD-style attack on American soil.

Who's in charge?  Joint Task Force Command (JTFCOM), Northern Command (NORTHCOM), J9 Joint Innovation and Experimentation Directorate, FEMA’s command bunker, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Virginia police. Canada, Europe and the Marines are also involved.

Could NORTHCOM bring in martial law? Could this lead to a merger of Canada, Mexico and the US via the SPP? Let's get informed and take action.

Tigana: Rove "arrested" by birthday revellers

Mon Apr 16, 2007 at 10:29:23 AM PDT

Molly Ivins told us to make a difference and have fun, and this story would have pleased her. I hope it will make you smile, too.

Women from Code Pink and a group called the Surge Protection Brigade used a clever plan and props to enter a hotel where Karl Rove was speaking on Friday the thirteenth of April, and staged a mock arrest right outside the door of his talk.

Details and pictures below.

New Orleans - The City That George Forgot

Thu Apr 05, 2007 at 06:19:06 AM PDT

Four days of funds spent on the Iraq war would go a long way towards putting the City that George Forgot to rights, but the government has other priorities. Corruption, negligence and land grab in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are ongoing. Will we later say, BushCo turned New Orleans into Six Flags Exxon and we did nothing to stop it?
Read this and weep: http://www.commongroundrelief.org/
More NOLA info here: http://www.dailykos.com/...
Kossacks can get behind NOLA relief projects that exist. We can put pressure on the government to do right, and keep it on. And Kossacks can create a challenge for our Dem candidates. Let's brainstorm this and figure out a way that eliminates wiggle room.
You want our vote, Ms/Mr. Candidate. So spend your campaign time - and campaign funds - on New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Lead the people of New Orleans home, and SHOW how you are going to help the American people, and that you deserve the opportunity to lead.
I hope I've done this justice - I'm a new diarist. Scout Finch suggested a daily Daily Kos Katrina diary - sounds like a great idea to me. TT/Nathan, NPK, can we do this?

Ali Bhurton

Sat Mar 17, 2007 at 01:04:56 AM PDT

On March 11th, Kossack Jerome a Paris broke the news that Halliburton is moving to Dubai
in this post. http://www.dailykos.com/...

Barbwires cleverly suggested the slogan "Ali Bhurton" - catchy! I used her idea in the design below the fold. Thank you, Barbwires!
